Crunchyroll is a popular anime streaming site that has been around for over 13 years. It first started out as a free website and then it became a paid service with limited ads to members. Recently, they have increased the number of ads on their site which can be frustrating for some users who are trying to watch episodes without any interruptions. The question is: why does crunchyroll have so many ads? Let’s take a look at the reasons behind this decision in this article!
The first reason is that Crunchyroll has increased their budget for the year in order to acquire more anime content. They have been investing into VRV, a live streaming service with channels from popular media companies like Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon. It’s worth noting that they are also planning on adding movies to this service as well which will be an additional revenue stream of theirs. To increase revenues even further, they plan on introducing ads onto the site so sponsors can reach out to them without any hassle (they already do this outside of their website). This would allow readers who want ad-free viewing all around – including TV shows too – to buy a premium membership.
The second reason is that they can’t rely on the audience to keep them afloat anymore. For example, in 2013 Crunchyroll was streaming more than 700 hours of anime per day and by 2017 their viewers were only watching about 550 hours of content daily. This has left Crunchyroll with no choice but to find new sources of revenue so they don’t go out of business (we all know how difficult it is for small startups). Additionally, this change will help make sure there are enough funds available when licensing agreements come up which could potentially be worth tens-of-millions dollars depending on what company they negotiate with next!
This isn’t just speculation either as we have seen other companies take similar actions. For example, in 2013 Yahoo! started a new service called “Yahoo Screen” which was going to be their original online streaming video content. But after they shut down the company back in 2016 it seems like that might have been for good reason. Another big problem with relying on ads is that advertisers are no longer paying as much money for advertising because of all the adblockers out there these days. It’s hard to make any money when people can just use an extension and block all of your commercials so this change makes perfect sense from Crunchyroll’s perspective too. What do you think?
