When you’re at university, all your instructors are like distant relatives. That means that they can be a little intimidating to approach. If you don’t know somebody at your institution, you’re probably not going to get the opportunity to talk to them. So when you can, try to get a substitute for the actual business cards you will be given. A decent sized business card will last you for a few years if you’re lucky.
I had assumed that substitute teachers were the same in the UK as they were in the US, and that people would only substitute for actual teaching jobs. But a quick look on the UK’s official website has me a little confused. I found that the UK’s official position is that you should always substitute for actual teaching (though this may be changing).
But the thing is, you can substitute for a teaching job, you can also substitute for actual teaching, and you can also substitute for a part-time job though this may be changing. The problem is, if you substitute for a part-time job, you will likely only get a part-time salary, and even if that salary is a good salary, you will likely be underpaid.
This is because the UK is now starting to put a cap on part time salaries. So for example, if you substitute for full-time teaching, you could get a salary of £45,000, but if you substitute for a part-time job, you could only get a salary of £12,500.
So yes, you will pay less than if you only work part time, but if you work part time you will probably only get that much. And if you substitute for a full time job, you probably won’t get much.
That’s the problem with being a part-time teacher. It doesn’t necessarily pay as much as if you had to do it full time.
The problem with substitute teaching is that it isn’t very flexible. The good news is that if you take a full-time job you can only get substitute teaching paid at 2.5 times your full-time salary. That’s not that much, but it’s a huge chunk of change. The bad news is that if you take a part-time job, you can get a good pay increase, but there’s a pretty big catch.
The good news is that part-time teachers are still entitled to the benefits of the full-time teacher. If you are a part-time teacher you can qualify for the student loans and the full-time teacher can qualify for the sick leave. The bad news is that the part-time teacher can only get a pay increase if she makes more than the full-time teacher. Thats a pretty big limit.
You can change your status with a simple document that has your full-time/part-time income in the document. You can even change your status if you are on both an on-time and off-time status.
I have to agree that this is a pretty good idea. If you are a full-time teacher, the part of your employment that you are on has a pretty big limit. If you are a part-time teacher, you can earn more money without having to do almost anything to earn it.
