I am a Regional Business Development Manager at a mid-sized hotel chain. When I am not working in the HR department, I manage a team of 7 people in the hotel group, which includes the team I work with. I like working with people who are passionate about what they do, but also find ways to work smarter, not harder. I am a fan of working for others and helping others, but I believe in being my own boss.
I am the guy who says everything is “as good as it can be,” and who will go to great lengths to prove it. I’m the guy who has worked for a small regional chain before and is now a regional manager for a major international one. I am the guy who goes to great lengths to show that I am competent, and who will give you the “I got this” attitude.
I’m a new regional business development manager. My responsibilities include recruiting and managing regional talent, developing the business plan, and implementing the plan into the business. I’m also the guy who is constantly striving to make things better. You just can’t find that kind of attitude anywhere else.
I have tried to be the best I could be all the time, and I will continue to do so. I am not perfect. I have missed a few things, and I will keep trying to improve my craft. I have never been a regional manager, but I have always had a need to be. I think that you can’t be a regional business development manager (or a regional talent) if you won’t take time to be a good person.
My own personal outlook on life has been shaped by being raised by my father to be a man of action. I think that if I could do my dad’s job I would be the best version of myself. I am one of those people that have always been given the opportunity to be a great person. I have always believed that it was my talent and passion that got me there.
In this video, I get a chance to talk to a regional business development manager about what it was like to work for one of our very own regional brands. I talk about the challenges of making it work being a regional business development manager, the personal challenges of dealing with salesmen and salespeople who don’t know who you are, and the career advice I’ve learned from regional business development managers.
I also talk about how the regional business development manager I talked to is one of the hardest bosses I’ve ever had to deal with. I explain how his leadership style is very different from what many people expect, and how he sets an example of how to lead a team of people who arent afraid to do it their own way.
We’ve put out a lot of regional business development managers in the past, but it’s the one who I’ve had the most trouble with.
He doesnt know about the “we’re the only ones here” concept. He doesnt know that youre not the only one that wants to get better and how to get there. He just sees what he wants to see and does what he wants to do to get there. He doesnt care about his team. He just wants to control them.
He’s not the only one who wants to do that though. We have another regional business development manager who wants to get the entire company to do exactly what he wants to get done. Not only does he want to control the whole team, but he wants to control and use them for his own selfish gains.
