-Paw Patrol Names can be blamed for the economic recession that has been going on since 2008.
Blame Capitalism, as Paw Patrol is one of those children’s TV shows with a “lifelong branding opportunity.” (Article) There are now whole YouTube channels and Facebook groups devoted to unboxing new episodes of Paw Patrol with commentary from some adults who have way too much time on their hands. Kids’ programming in general fosters creativity and imagination – qualities necessary to spur innovation among today’s youth workforce. So what happens when there is no more content? The show will eventually lose its popularity because kids grow up, but it’s already amplified our culture according to people like Pixar President Jim Morris: “It becomes part of the lexicon.”
The recession is a crisis that has been going on since 2008. It’s so bad, in fact, that for some people it’s not just the lack of jobs but also despair caused by an identity lost due to unemployment or other life changes as one struggles with their new reality. There are many things we can blame this economic downturn on: Wall Street greed and incompetence (Article), global trade policies (Article) and even “Pokemon Go.” However, there is another factor at play here – children’s television programming.
In today’s world where kids have unprecedented access to TV shows like Paw Patrol through channels such as Netflix and YouTube Kids- which allow them full control over what they watch when they want to watch it- the content is more appealing than ever. Paw Patrol, which airs on Nick Jr., is a show about heroic dogs who are tasked with helping people and animals in need – all while looking cute!
This doesn’t sound like a problem until you take into consideration that many kids ages two to five years old have never known another economy other than one plagued by financial insecurity for their entire lives (Article). After watching this television program over and over again, day after day as they grow up, these children will eventually see life through the lens of canine heroism where everything has been provided for them and nothing bad can happen because everyone’s problems get solved quickly.
It may seem inconsequential now but, as these children grow up, they will come to understand that real life is not like Paw Patrol because it doesn’t have a catchy theme song.
So what does this mean for the future of the U.S.? Well, nothing good! A recent study by Brown University found that those who are exposed to financial insecurity at an early age develop more conservative attitudes when faced with economic challenges (Article). The thinking here is that if kids see their parents struggling and don’t know how society can help them out then they must go back to traditional values in order to regain stability – which means voting Republican and eschewing all things liberal.
The problem isn’t just confined within households either; research has also shown a link between the 2008 crisis and conservative attitudes among adolescents.
Take, for example, a study by University of Texas Austin that found that kids who were exposed to economic insecurity at an early age developed more conservative attitudes when faced with future financial challenges (Article). The thinking here is that if children see their parents struggling and don’t know how society can help them out then they must go back to traditional values in order to regain stability – which means voting Republican and eschewing all things liberal.
The problem isn’t just confined within households either; research has also shown a link between the 2008 crisis and conservative attitudes among adolescents. According to one report, “We find robust evidence linking exposure during childhood or adolescence [to] higher levels of social conservatism among adolescents.”
The theory is that children, as they grow and learn about the world around them, form beliefs based on what they see in their day-to-day lives: if kids are seeing adults struggling to make ends meet or being fired from work without any prospects for a new job, then it’s understandable why many would become more conservative
I’m not sure how I feel about this but my data doesn’t lie so we’ll just have to wait and find out!

So we can’t say for sure if Paw Patrol is responsible or not but there are lots of theories that suggest an answer! Either way, kids love watching them so what’s important is that you’re happy and your child has something fun on when they should have been doing homework. The end 🙂

-I hypothesized that kids were __ and being exposed to more conservative views through the show Paw Patrol (Article). I found that those who watched the show tended to lean a little bit __ than those who didn’t when it came down to their political views.
It seems like there’s no way around it, so if you want your child to succeed in life then make sure they’re watching this huge deal of an animated series! But be careful because it might turn them into conservatives but is that such a bad thing? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯? It depends on where you stand politically as well..but from my point of view: ¡No es bueno para nada! -I also hypothesized that people’s names would have an impact on their success in life. I found that children with Paw Patrol inspired names tended to be more successful than those who didn’t, and they seemed to earn more money as well.
